Sick Baby

The other Sunday when I got home from work I saw Whitney had a spot on her right upper thigh. Belle had had MRSA before so I knew what to look for. So I popped the little white head and put a band aid with medicine, I had left over from Belle and waited. On Tuesday it was getting bigger. This time when I popped it I could tell it was much deeper and getting worse. I tried the doctors to get in and get her on some antibiotic but by the time they got back to me it was late so we went in on Wednesday. The spot had still gotten bigger. The doctor had to poke it with a needle to push the pus out. We got on the antibiotic and kept up the many other things you have to do when you have MRSA. I knew that it was getting worse, not better, so I called the doctor again to get in. Friday we went back in! This time the doctor gave me two options, put her on a stronger antibiotic medicine that tastes bad and am not even sure she'll take or go to the hospital??!! We had plans to go to the cabin with everyone that weekend. At first I wanted to try the stronger antibiotic medicine to keep our weekend the same but then the doctor offered to relieve the pressure. That consisted of cutting open the wound and pushing out the pus for about five minutes. Both the doctor and nurse said that it is one of the worst they had seen. Poor Whitney was wigging out of course through out the whole thing, but when it was done the nurse brought both girls a sucker and you wouldn't even know anything was wrong. Ultimately I decided it was best to just go ahead and take her to the hospital. That also consisted of trying to get ahold of someone to go wake Blake up 'cuz he worked the night before. I was lucky enough to get ahold of Taylor.
Melting the nurses heart with her smile!
Happy to see Daddy!
Where's your awwie?
Hi Everyone we love!
Sending Kisses to everyone!
We went to the hospital and lucky for us our pediatrician was the doctor on duty that weekend. So after getting settled in the surgeon came in and talked to us about what we could do for Whitney's leg. After seeing her she decided to take her into surgery to cut open and crap out the MRSA/pus. She had seen a lot of this so she was vary confident that that would be the best way to get it all out. We were set for Saturday morning. That night was our softball tournament. Blake and I have been in a league all summer and that Friday was our last game. We normally do not have enough girls to play so we decided that I would go to the game. There was really nothing else for me there to do. It was a waiting game. I say that but they still called me at the game to ask me all the questions for her records, I guess Blake was sleeping?! We of course lost! Only one parent could stay with her so we decided that I'd go home and try to get some good rest. Belle was set up good with Grandma and Grandpa! They all went to the cabin as planned. Belle was sweet. She did get a gift for sissy!
Blake went to take a pic and she moved her head!!
After she just wants mommy!
Going in!!
After her nap after surgery.
Saturday morning, D-Day! It was so sad to carry her down to the OR! The anesthesiologiest explained what they were going to do and the nurses were great with making sure we were well informed, with calling us on a phone in the waiting room. It took about 10 minutes for the surgery. When all was done the surgeon come back out and explained how everything went. She did a big cut across the sore and pus immediately came out. She that took a instrument like a grapefruit spoon to scrap out the infection. As she did that the first incision from the doctors opened so she went on and cut and scraped that out too. But as she was getting done with all that Whitney started having problems with her breathing. It started to become erratic. So they decided to stop there and start waking her up. The surgeon wanted to put some stitches in to close the wound to just help it heal a little faster. But Whitney breathing was way more important then a few extra days of healing. I loved that all she wanted was her mommy! Blake tried to take her and she push away to me! Love it! When we got back to the room I felt bad for Whit. They have to take all her vitals for the records but she doesn't understand what they want so she was not happy! But after they all left and it was just me and Blake she got down and walked over to Blake to snuggle for a nap! I couldn't believe that right after surgery she was up and walking like nothing!! We stayed another night.

Playing with her food, spoon on nose!
Blake and I had to learn to change the dressing. It was not fun! We had to soak her in the tub to get the bandage wet on the skin, then take it off, and then re-wrap it. They afford to have a in-home nurse come and help but we figured we'd have Debbie or Bryant come help. So for the next two weeks we had to change the bandage. Bryant did come and help us the first few times. It felt like it was over night that the cut healed. It is looking so much better! She will have a scare there but I think with all the growing she still has to do I don't think you'll be able to notice it.
