Today Nana, Belle and mommy went to Springfield, Illinois at Camp Lincoln for a memorial. We were recognizing all the fallen National Guard soldiers of Illinois in this ceremony. A young man by the name of Allen Dilworth designed this memorial for his Eagle Scout Project. With many charitable donations he was able to bring his vision to life there at Camp Lincoln. Allen is the young kid laying the ceremonial wreath and getting his Eagle Scout pin. My mother's friend Anita reed a beautiful poem
In Flanders Field by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae (1872-1918). They had many blue star families there to honor their fallen soldier in the memorial. If you don't know, a blue star family is a family of a blue star recipient. Normally a fallen or wounded soldier. In the ceremony they honored all 32 Gaurds men and women that were killed from 2003-present. There is a portable wall in honor of all the blue star soldiers of Illinois and it was there at the ceremony. I think it was a great thing to remember those who have gone before us and payed the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and the freedom of others! We should
ALL thank a veteran if we ever see one!!! They are what this
amazing country was built on!!
